In Saskatchewan, the insured can invoke the appraisal clause in their insurance policy, which is strengthened by the statutory dispute resolution process under The Insurance Act (c. I-9.11, s. 8-11). While the process functions like an appraisal, Saskatchewan uses the term 'dispute resolution representative' rather than 'appraiser' (s. 8-11(1)). National Appraisers serves as your dispute resolution representative. Each side appoints a representative within 7 days, and the two representatives appoint an umpire within 15 days. The written determination of a majority of the panel determines the matters. If a majority cannot be established, the umpire has sole discretion. The statute also requires the insurer to notify the insured of their dispute resolution rights within 5 business days of a claim dispute (s. 7-25).
